Plain-language answers on getting started, understanding what Atqin's tracking colours mean, and what to do when something goes wrong.
Getting started
How do I start reading?
Open Atqin — the home screen is the Mushaf itself, and reading needs no sign-in and no account. Use the Surah picker to jump to any Surah, or scroll straight through.
How do I start a Recite session?
Tap "Start reciting", pick a Surah and, optionally, a specific ayah range, then tap Start. Atqin listens as you recite and tracks your place against the Qur'an text live.
Does Recite need microphone access?
Yes — Recite needs microphone access to listen. Your browser asks for permission the moment you start a session, not before. Reading and listening to reciter audio never require a microphone or an account.
What's the difference between Mushaf and Flow reading modes?
Flow shows the Qur'an as a continuous, verse-by-verse layout. Mushaf mode lays the text out as a page-flip carousel matching the real Mushaf, one physical page per screen. Switch between them any time in Settings → Reading mode.
Understanding tracking feedback
What do the colours mean while I recite?
Gold marks the word Atqin is currently listening for — a first read, not yet confirmed. Green means a word is confirmed, once the evidence settles. The attention colour marks a possible mistake — Atqin never marks a word this way on a single, ambiguous pass.
Why doesn't every correctly recited word turn green right away?
Speech recognition needs a moment to settle before Atqin is confident enough to confirm a word. A word you said correctly may sit unconfirmed for a beat before turning green — that's expected, not a sign something's wrong.
What happens when the evidence is ambiguous?
If Atqin can't confidently resolve a word either way, it stays labelled uncertain rather than being counted as a mistake or a pass. Uncertainty is never silently rounded into a red flag — see Transparency for the full reasoning.
When something goes wrong
Tracking feels stuck or jumps to the wrong place — what do I try?
If Atqin shows "Still listening — tap where you are", tap the ayah you're actually on to help it relocate; a short list of likely candidates appears when it's unsure. Reciting in a quieter space helps too. Atqin re-evaluates on every pass, so it usually recovers within a few seconds on its own.
How do I stop or restart a session safely?
Tap the close button in the Recite bar at any time. This ends the session safely and keeps whatever Atqin already tracked up to that point — nothing is lost by stopping early. You can start a fresh session immediately after.
How do I report a tracking issue?
Open "Report a tracking issue" from the Recite bar, or from the session summary once you've finished. Choose what happened, optionally note the Surah/ayah and add a short description, then send it. You can preview exactly what will be sent before you submit.
What information does a tracking report contain?
Only relative timestamps, word-position numbers and tracking states from that session, plus the category and Surah/ayah you selected and any note you typed. It never includes audio, a transcript, or the recognised text.
Contact and more
How do I contact support?
Use the contact form on the Support page — Atqin is an independent, one-person project, and every message goes there directly.
